Play Games, Have Fun, Make Connections with the
Million Minute Family Challenge

BELOIT, Wis. – Patch Products, along with supporters Sylvan Learning Center, KOA Kampgrounds, iParenting Media, Great Wolf Lodge Family Resorts and National Games Week, has announced the start of the fifth annual Million Minute Family Challenge.

The Million Minute Family Challenge is a grassroots effort encouraging interaction and communication among family and friends through playing board games. The goal is to encourage at least 1,000 families, groups or organizations in each of the 50 states to play a board game together for 20 minutes. That’s 1,000,000 minutes! Game-play minutes can be logged at www.millionminute.com from September 1 through December 31, 2005.

New for this year are two Million Minute Family Challenge sweepstakes. The first is targeted to children and will be hosted by www.kidzworld.com. The second will be targeted to parents and hosted by www.iParenting.com. Both sweepstakes will offer Patch games as prizes.

“Games can be a great teaching tool, as well as a wonderful avenue for opening dialogue between parents and children,” says Karen Taylor, President of California Homeschool Network, which encouraged its families to log over 100,000 minutes in 2004.

“When selecting games, parents should look for those that are challenging, but allow for success, and also leave room for a variety of play,” says Richard E. Bavaria, Ph.D. and vice president of education for Sylvan Learning Center. “Good games nurture a child’s ideas and imagination, while growing with a child’s changing interests.”

Everyone can participate by playing games and logging minutes at www.millionminute.com. The web site is filled with fun ideas on how to participate, games to play and educational information including the benefits of family time, the history of games and how to use games in the classroom. If your group or organization is interested in participating in the Million Minute Family Challenge, please let us know by writing millionminute@patchproducts.com. Participating groups will be recognized on the Million Minute Family Challenge web site.
