Patch Sponsors Million Minute Family Challenge™

Beloit, Wis. -- Patch Products is leading the 2nd annual Million Minute Family Challenge this September through December. This event is a grassroots effort encouraging interaction and communication among family and friends through playing board games. Last year, thousands of families, schools, children's museums, libraries, clubs and retailers participated.

The goal of the Million Minute Family Challenge is to encourage at least 1,000 families, groups or organizations in each state to play a board game together for 20 minutes or more, to reach a cumulative 1,000,000 minutes. Beginning September 1, 2002, families, groups and classrooms can participate by playing games and logging their minutes at www.millionminute.com. The web site also features fun ideas on how to participate, games to play and educational information including the benefits of family time, the history of games and how to use games in the classroom.

Awareness for the Million Minute Family Challenge is being generated through partnerships with Hilton Hotels, Oscar Mayer and Taco Bell Home Originals.

Dr. Sylvia Rimm, child psychologist and author of several top-selling books on parenting and achievement, is spokesperson for the Million Minute Family Challenge. Rimm says, "Now more than ever, families are looking for ways to spend time with their loved ones. Playing games is a great way to interact and bond with family and friends. Games can also be learning tools. Games help the youngest players develop social skills including following rules, fair play, listening, patience and good sportsmanship. As children grow, games sharpen vocabulary, math, creative writing, verbal reasoning and critical thinking skills."
