Patch Releases New Board Game
As Redneck Popularity Grows
BELOIT, Wis. – The term Redneck used to be a putdown, but lately people have been wearing the label with
pride.
Comedian Jeff Foxworthy, who has described Rednecks as possessing “a glorious lack of sophistication,”
released his “You Might Be a Redneck If…” comedy album in 1993. Since then, redneck themes have surfaced in
everything from musical tours to “athletic” events to wedding planners. Here are a few:
Gretchen Wilson, singer of the popular country tune “Redneck Woman,” is taking her “Redneck Revolution
Tour 2006” to places as “un-Redneck” as Salt Lake City, New York City and Baltimore. She’s also writing a
book, “Gretchen Wilson: I’ll Tell You What a Redneck Woman Is,” that Warner Books will publish later this
year.
Redneck Fests are scheduled in cities as different as Beaumont, Texas, and Boston, Mass., to highlight
country music.
The Summer Redneck Games take place every July in East Dublin, Ga., with events such as the mudpit belly
flop, the big hair contest and the hubcab hurl.
“The Redneck Wedding Planner,” published by Broadway Books, is filled with “Do’s and Don’ts, checklists,
tips and…hilarious ways to cut wedding costs but maximize style, fun and safety.”
Now, Patch Products, a leading toy and game manufacturer and marketer, has just released Jeff
Foxworthy’s™ You Might Be a Redneck If…™ board game, based on his stand-up comedy routine, books and
recordings. Players start the game in their trailer and go through town, collecting Redneck things like
jerky and a hound dog to bring back home. If you’re the first Redneck to collect everything and return to
your trailer, you win. On each turn, players pick from three choices to correctly complete one of
Foxworthy’s jokes.
“The game will appeal to people whom Jeff Foxworthy describes as possessing ‘a glorious lack of
sophistication’ as well as those who consider themselves more refined,” said Lisa Wuennemann, director of
marketing at Patch Products. “If you think Foxworthy is funny, you’ll love this game.”
