Everyone is Invited to Take the Million Minute Family Challenge Play Games, Have Fun, Make Connections
BELOIT, Wis. – Patch Products, Inc. is planning the fifth annual Million Minute Family Challenge™ and wants to invite everyone from families and friends to schools, social groups and game clubs to take the Million Minute Family Challenge!
The Million Minute Family Challenge is a grassroots effort encouraging interaction and communication among family and friends through playing board games. The goal is to encourage at least 1,000 families, groups or organizations in each of the 50 states to play a board game together for 20 minutes. That’s 1,000,000 minutes! Game-play minutes can be logged at www.millionminute.com from September 1 through December 31, 2005.
“Games can be a great teaching tool, as well as a wonderful avenue for opening dialogue between parents and children,” says Karen Taylor, President of California Homeschool Network, which encouraged its families to log over 100,000 minutes in 2005.
“When selecting games, parents should look for those that are challenging, but allow for success, and also leave room for a variety of play,” says Richard E. Bavaria, Ph.D. and vice president of education for Sylvan Learning Center. “Good games nurture a child’s ideas and imagination, while growing with a child’s changing interests.”
Patch Products along with 2005 Million Minute Family Challenge supporters Sylvan Learning Center, KOA Kampgrounds, iParenting Media, Great Wolf Lodge Family Resorts and National Games Week are calling upon families across the United States to spend time together interacting, communicating and playing a board game.
Everyone can participate by playing games and logging their minutes at www.millionminute.com. The web site is filled with fun ideas on how to participate, games to play and educational information including the benefits of family time, the history of games and how to use games in the classroom.
