History of Backyard Games: Continued
When sports like baseball, football and basketball became popular, kids began making up their own versions to play. Boys and girls enjoyed the sport even without the right equipment or number of players. Whiffleball, stickball and kickball are all kinds of baseball. Instead of tackle football, kids played touch or flag football. How many of you have played H-O-R-S-E with a basketball?
Sports aren't the only thing that stimulate your mind and help you invent new games. New products do too. When the Frisbee® was first sold in the 1950s, everyone thought it was fun to just throw it back and forth. But in 1968 New Jersey high school students combined different rules from basketball, football, and soccer with a flying disk to invent Ultimate Frisbee®, which is now played all over the world!
